# Follow a Channel & Get Notified

Summary: Follow a channel and choose email, push, and in-app notifications so you hear about new posts and tasks.
Updated: 2026-07-12

Follow a channel when you want to stay up to date with its activity. When you follow a channel, Zira can notify you about new posts and tasks so you do not have to keep checking manually.

You control how you are notified — by **email**, by **push notification**, and **in-app** — and you can change these at any time.

## Follow a channel

1. Open the channel you want to follow.
2. Find the **Follow** button near the top of the channel.
3. Click **Follow**.

The button changes to **Following** once you are following the channel. To stop, click **Following** to unfollow.

Some channels are set so that following is managed for you. If a channel cannot be followed or unfollowed manually, Zira tells you when you click the button.

You can also follow channels from the channels list and from channel search — use the **Follow** chip next to a channel there.

## Choose how you are notified

Notification preferences let you decide how a channel reaches you.

1. Open the channel.
2. Open the channel menu (the **⋯** / more actions button in the channel header).
3. Click **Notification preferences**.
4. Turn each option on or off:
   - **E-mail** — get an email when there is new activity.
   - **In-app** — see notifications inside Zira.
   - **Push notifications** — get a push alert on your device.

Your choices are saved as you toggle them.

## What you get notified about

Once you follow a channel and turn on notifications, Zira keeps you informed about that channel's activity, including:

- **New posts** in the channel feed
- **Tasks** raised in the channel

Use notifications to stay close to the channels that matter for your work, and turn them off for channels you only check occasionally.

## Turn on push notifications on your device

Push notifications also depend on your device and browser allowing them.

- Make sure notifications are allowed for Zira in your browser or on your device.
- For the best push experience, install the Zira app so it can send notifications like a native app. See [Install the Zira App](/docs/getting-started/install-the-app).

## Tips

- Follow the channels you work in daily, and use **In-app** to keep them from filling your inbox.
- Use **E-mail** for channels where you need a record or reminder outside Zira.
- Turn on **Push notifications** for time-sensitive channels you need to react to quickly.
