Create a Chat
Start a private or group conversation, choose the right people, and review the setup before you begin messaging.
Use chat when you want to start a conversation with one person or create a group conversation for a team, topic, or short-term task.
The steps are designed to feel simple and clear. First you choose people, then you review the chat before it opens.
Navigation
Chats are available from the left sidebar. Open Chats there when you want to move between conversations or start a new one.
If you are already looking at a conversation, the chats list may already be open so you can move to another chat more easily.
Ways to use chat
You can use chat in more than one way:
- Use the smaller chat view when you want to quickly read or reply without fully changing pages.
- Use the full chat page when you want more space for reading, searching, and replying.
After you create a chat, you can continue in whichever chat view opens for you.
Start a new chat
- Open Chats from the left sidebar.
- Click New Chat.
- A window opens where you can choose the people you want to chat with.
Start a private chat
- Open the new chat window.
- Select one person.
- Check that the right person appears in the selected people row.
- Continue to open the conversation.
The conversation opens right away, so you can send your first message.
Create a group chat
- Open the new chat window.
- Select two or more people.
- Continue to the next step.
- Review the group details.
- Add or change the group details if needed.
- Click the button to create the group chat.
Use a group chat when several people need the same conversation history and updates in one place.
Review the selected people
Before you create the chat, check the selected people row in the window.
Use it to:
- confirm that the right people are included
- remove someone before creating the chat
- make sure a private chat stays focused on one person
- make sure a group chat includes everyone who should see the conversation
This is especially helpful when you are creating a group from a long list of people.
What to do if you picked the wrong people
- Find the selected people row in the new chat window.
- Remove the person you do not want to include.
- Search for and select the correct person.
- Continue when the selection looks right.
If you are unsure whether the chat should be private or group-based, check the number of selected people before you create it.
What happens next
After the chat is created:
- the conversation opens in the chat workspace
- you can send the first message immediately
- the new chat appears in your chat list
- other participants can continue the conversation from their own chat view
If you start in the smaller chat view and want more space, open the full chat page from the chat controls.
Tips
- Start with a private chat when you only need one person.
- Use a group chat when the same update would otherwise be repeated in several separate conversations.
- Review the selected people before creating the chat so you do not need to correct the participants afterward.
- If you already know who you need, use search in the people list to move faster.
